With the Right Application, Waiting Rooms Don’t Have to be Painful.
Checkup will be the first of its kind to connect friends and family members to patients who are dealing with the various reasons for being hospitalized. Through a variety of unique, HIPAA compliant, features my app will allow users to feel as if they are receiving the most recent patient information from a hospital waiting room without actually being there. There are many reasons why friends and family can’t always make it to the hospital physically; with Checkup we hope to be able to connect those loved ones into a medical community in order to bring peace of mind.
WHAT IT DOES
The premiere feature of Checkup will be a virtual “waiting room” where the primary contact of the patient will control any new status or operative updates of the patient. With this feature, friends or family members who have been granted access into the room can check the app monitor for the status of the patient as well as any detailed updates the primary contact wishes to write and upload. There will be a question and answer page neatly within the virtual waiting room so that the main contact does not feel overwhelmed by mass messages from those following the patient. For any new phase change, status updates, questions, or questions answered there will be notifications sent to the users. Finally, a “medical household” feature will allow users to connect to those closest to them; here they can share calen- dars with upcoming events, results of hospital visits, health related articles, and so on.
HOW IT WORKS
After downloading the app and setting up a profile the user will be prompted to start creating their “medical household.” The “medical home” will be the home page of the app where the users can see what is medically going on in their families’ lives. When a family member is going to undergo surgery, the primary contact of the patient who has signed off to receive information at the hospital will click a feature within the app that says, “create waiting room.” The primary contact will then be asked to invite friends and family into the waiting room by accessing their phones contacts and sending text message notifications to download the app and lead them into the virtual waiting room. The app will then open a page with a monitor of the phase in which the patient is at (pre-op, surgery started, surgery stopped, post-op) as well as an update blog and question and answer page. Those being allowed into the waiting room will have all the recent patient news in front of them, if they have any questions they can post them on the question and answer page.
